Inactivity is under fire. It has a direct link to obesity, heart disease, metabolic disorders, hypertension, and impaired musculoskeletal function. The NY Times recently found that a sedentary lifestyle can alter the structure of the neurons in your brain.
The American Council on Exercise recommends adults get 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. This may not be enough to fight health consequences. The National Institute of Health is considering new guidelines to incorporate more physical activity to prevent these risk factors of a sedentary lifestyle.
The takeaway? Your 3 hours in the gym might not be enough. Consider alternative transportation, take a “Health Break,” or identify areas during your day that could use a little more movement.
